Chapter 31 Standards Review

The State Board of Education and the Wyoming Dept. of Education (WDE) have established dates for a series of public hearings regarding the proposed revisions to the Wyoming Content & Performance Standards in Mathematics, Language Arts, and Health. As you might or might not know, the proposed Wyoming standards in Math and LA incorporate the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), at the recommendation of Wyoming's Language Arts and Math Content Standards Review Committees (which are comprised totally of Wyoming educators and community members).
If you have not yet read the proposed standards, they are posted on the WDE Website at: http://edu.wyoming.gov/Programs/standards/standards_review_request-for-public-comments.aspx , which is also where you can submit written comments.
The schedule for the five in-person and one WEN video public hearings is:
. Mon., Feb. 6, 2012, 6-8 P.M. -Gillette-Campbell County High School Auditorium
. Tues., Feb. 7, 2012, 6-8 P.M.-Casper-Natrona County School District, Central Services Facility, Jefferson Room
. Wed., Feb. 8, 2012, 6-8 P.M.-Thermopolis-Thermopolis Town Hall
. Thurs., Feb. 9, 2012, 6-8 P.M.-Rock Springs--Sweetwater County School District #1 Central Administration Building, Board Room
. Fri., Feb. 10, 2012, 6-8 P.M.-Cheyenne-Laramie County Community College, Center for Conferences and Institutes (CCI), Room 130

December 12, 2011Pursuant to state statute requiring revision of Wyoming Content and Performance Standards every five years, the State Board of Education approved revisions to the content areas of mathematics, health education, and language arts in September 2011. The revisions to the areas of mathematics and language arts include the Common Core State Standards.
Careful consideration should be made by educators and the public regarding these revisions as they are open for public comment December 12, 2011 - January 25, 2011. All revisions can be found on the Wyoming Department of Education website along with instructions on the procedure to comment, or clicking the link below. The Wyoming Education Association would like to encourage all members, especially those within the mathematics and language arts fields to review the BOE revisions and comment as necessary.
