AASL, ALA, NEA Team With Dollar General to Provide $800,000 In Grants
Beginning April 2006, NEA is joining several organizations to provide $800,000 in grant money that will be available to rebuild and expand public school libraries affected by natural disasters. Continuing NEA's commitment to restock public school libraries affected by last year's Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, "Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Program," is a collaboration among NEA, retailer Dollar General, the American Library Association, and the American Association of School Librarians. Individual library awards will range from $5,000 to $15,000. The funds will be used to purchase books, media, and/or library equipment that support learning in a school library environment.
